Additional Tail lights

In keeping with my plan of "lighting this thing up like a Christmas tree" in order to be more visible to the hordes of somnabulant morning drivers I decided that it was time to add some extra illumination to the back end and hopefully decrease the chances of a rear-ender by a coffee swilling, hair-combing distracted driver.

I am a big fan of LED lighting on bikes as they give bright clear light with minimal current drain.

To this end I purchased online a pair of red LED "marker lights". I bought unbranded lights but there are plenty of options both from Hella and through eBay.

I simply fabricated a simple aluminium plate that fastened to the rear of the GIVI topbox rack. If you do not have something like this then you could easily make an angled bracket and attach it to the bracket that is part of the top rear crash bar.

I soldered the wires from both lights together and ran them down the left rear support for the rear rack, in between the steel bar and the rubber boot and down into the tail light area where I grafted the wires into the tail light circuit.

As you can see these lights significantly increase the amount of light visible from the rear of the bike.
